    View from our southern balcony.
Strong river stream rushing in between the buildings. Filling the space between “Haag en Veld” and “Hofgeest”, exiting through the delta under the highway out into Nelson Mandela Park.
Our strawberries plants are safe behind the glass.

Some of our neighbours share their apartment with a great number of family members. In some cases apartments with two or three rooms are split into 4 or 5 room apartments. Heidi lives together with her daughter, her son-in-law and their 3 children. 2020-05-10

    Sheep
Many times I pass in the green area between “Hofgeest” and “Hoorneboeg”. I always wonder who decided to put this spring sheep there, it is not connected to any playground and it is a bit hidden. It is sad to see a small sheep which got lost from its herd.

    Birdman
On our way to the butcher shop we came across a very friendly man. He was feeding a group of grey herons. Throwing to the air leftovers of chicken and fish, he showed us the herons’ nests on top of the trees and explained that this group of herons follows him wherever he goes. In the morning they wait outside of his balcony. He tries to not feed them too much and claims that this bird can live a week without eating but sometimes when the birds are bagging he cannot refuse to give them more food.

The width of an apartment block interior is 10,50m, add the 2 balconies from each side and you will get 13,70m. If you don’t own a storage unit and you don't have the key to these doors, you would need to walk an average of 180m to reach the other side.

At the playground next to Bullewijk lies a beautiful snack bar. The photos surrounding the trailer got so washed by the sun that every time I pass there it's like a small reminder of the desert graphic design.

Sunny morning in Heesterveld, a lovely couple standing outside of the balcony. The rest of the neighbours are probably still asleep.

For some years I see the African aubergine in shops around the neighbourhood. From pure love to aubergines and their relatives, I can’t help ignore them.
This close relative of the aubergine was used in West Africa and then cultivated in Central Asia, therefore also known as Vietnamese aubergine or Thai aubergine. It was brought to South America by the Spaniards already before the 17th century and finally arrived from Suriname to Amsterdam.

View from our balcony on the 9th floor: The corner apartment of the 10th floor overlooks Nelson Mandela Park in the late afternoon. It is one of the best locations for a beautiful movie scene I’ve ever seen in my life.

Before every bulky waste collection day you can find all over the neighbourhood an array of site-specific works. It is neither curated by any art organisation nor asking for any audience. If you're lucky you can witness beautiful installations, many times also regardless of the garbage collection day.

Delicious barbecue smell is filling the air of our balcony. It lured me outside, I looked down trying to locate the source of the smell. It was coming from one of the balconies on the 6th floor.

View from the living room side, when the sun is setting the building on Haag en Veld reveals a star map. Measured and straight, every now and then one of the lights is blinking. It can take a few minutes until you'll find it.
