    Pollock
A very random paint-splatter on a huge, clean brick wall. I stared at it for a bit, deducing whether or not if it was an accident. I found no such clues... 2023-10-01

    Spidercam
I tried playing around with my camera lens a lot. I stuck my phone in werid angels and corners of buildings to capture the point of view of insects for example. 2023-10-01

    Shadow Selfie
I hesitated about whether or not to include myself in these photos. I did not want to be the center of attention. However, I constantly noticed my shadow following me as I walked the streets around IJburg. Shadows exist in temporality and so do I at IJburg as a visitor and I found it funny that by taking a picture, I can leave a trace but not change anything about it. 2023-10-03

    IJburg

    Wide Street
One of the first things I noticed about IJburg was the amount of space. For a second, it seemed like I was in another city almost with completely new ways or organizing public spaces. 2023-10-03

    Littering is never good
Littering is never a good thing but the way this can was positioned, it almost seemed like it belonged there. Was this can dropped recently or was it there for a while; I can almost tell what kind of person was drinking it based on the flavor of Redbull they bought. 2023-10-03
  • Hollyhock

    IJburg

    Hollyhock
What is this Hollyhock doing in IJburg? One reverse google image search led me to know that this flower was imported into Europe from Southwest China during or possibly before the 15th Century. 2023-10-03

    IJburg

    Metal Mountains
Although this fencing was made so that no one could climb over and trespass onto private land, at the right angel and height, the spikes looked like mountains to me. It worked really well with the scenic background as well, merging within the sandy beach and water 2023-10-05

    POV
I started using props while taking photos on my walk. I was getting bored with way I was documenting because it had no character or story to tell. I wanted to use props to help me narrate what I was seeings. So I started sticking my sunglasses in front of my camera as if the viewer is now wearing my shades. I got a lot of weird looks from the people around me for good reason. In my view you see the Sluishuis housing block above the IJ lake. The building has become a new landmark for IJburg and is created on an artificial island.

    IJburg

    b-ball
Just opposite to the Sportshall IJburg there was an outdoor basketball court. To an average person this seems like a normal basketball pitch but I thought it was quite different. Why was it not constructed like a normal full-court basketball pitch? Why are the hoops side by side? Surely this wasn't the case for other basketball grounds in Amsterdam where I've played. Anyways, if I had my ball, shoes, and a nice drink with me, I would have probably never left IJburg that evening. 2023-10-05

    IJburg

    Distorted glass
As I continue to search for strange and absurd things in my surroundings to capture, I was finding it difficult to document the neighborhood in a unique way that feels personal yet social, until I came across a distorted window pane in a tram. For whatever reason, half of the window pane was distorted and created this 'trippy' effect where the world looked shaken up. I was suddenly fascinated by looking at the rest of IJburg only through this lens, I found it really funny how it distorted buildings, people, dogs, cars, etc. 2023-10-05
  • Liminal Space

    IJburg

    Liminal Space
A liminal space refer to rite of passages; they imply transition between 'where you've been and where you're going physically, emotionally, or metaphorically'. As my walk in IJburg nears its completion, I return the same way I came there; via this tram. As an outsider, I entered a liminal space that physically transported me to an unfamiliar area. I was reflecting on the day, what I did and what I saw during my tram ride back. Just like any developing area in a city, a well structured transportation is important to move people back and forth. Random people checked-in, checked-out and carried on with their day but it was nice to know that we all shared that liminal space in common. 2023-10-06

    work in progress
I instantly noticed that a lot of IJburg was under construction. Still many developing residential areas, roads, cafes, offices being built. It definitely wasn't what it was five years ago when I first moved to Amsterdam. I wonder what the city's plans are for IJburg, will it become a bustling cosmopolitan area?, will it become the next cultural hub?, will it remain low-key, spacious getaway from the busy city center? Rome wasn't built in a day and we all know that. I hope to return someday to review all the changes and developments in the surroundings. 2023-10-06
